A city which has never relocated in the past 2,300 years; a city that has never had its name changed; a city that is characterized by excellent, unrivaled and unconventional styles... this city is Chengdu – the best tourism city of China.

Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is a sub-provincial city as well as an important hub city in China. Among other accolades, Chengdu was listed as the first batch of historical and cultural Chinese cities, a technological, commerce and trade and financial center as well as transportation and communication hub designated by the State Council, and a key aviation center in southwest China that ranks fourth nationwide. Chengdu was honored as the “Best Tourist City in China” by World Tourism Organization and National Tourism Administration, and is one of five cities in China nominated as the observation sites of UNWTO for sustainable development in tourism. In addition, Chengdu has now become the fourth city after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and the first city in western China, to be granted the privilege of 72-hour Visa-Free Transit Policy. Within its administrations are nine districts, four satellite cities and six counties with a total land area of 12,400km2 and permanent resident population of 14.07 million.

In recent years, Chengdu has been rated as “Investment Environment Benchmarking City in Mainland China”, “Engine City for West Development” and “Pilot City for Pathway to New Urbanization” by the World Bank and in economic circles. Currently, as Chengdu is forging ahead to become the economic core growth pole in western China, its comprehensive competitive power and clout in the surrounding areas are garnering increasing attention from the outside world. On October 8, 2010, US financial magazine Forbes released a research report on the fastest growing cities in the next ten years, and Chengdu was ranked first on the list. At present, over 200 Fortune 500 enterprises including Intel, IBM and Dell have settled in Chengdu, the most in mid-western China. The number of foreign banks and consulates operating in Chengdu also rank first in western China. In 2013, Chengdu became the fourth Chinese city, after Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, to host the prestigious and influential Fortune Global Forum.

Chengdu is rich in tourism resources and distinct folk customs. In addition to a pair of World Cultural Heritage sites in Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Chengdu is also home to the Jinsha Site Museum, which resurrected the ancient Shu civilization from over 3,000 years ago; the Wuhou Shrine, which narrates the history and legends of the Three Kingdoms; the Du Fu Thatched Cottage, where the Poet Sage left his eloquent legacy; and the world’s largest giant panda breading base, along with humorous Sichuan opera, delicious Sichuan cuisine like hotpot and the uniquely Chinese gaiwan tea.

Chengdu – City of Fortune, City of Success, the best tourist city of China welcomes you!
